Seafarers’ Memorial

On the 23rd of August, Rev. Diane (she with the Prayer Book) and Deacon Eric (he with the bagpipes) took part in what has now become annual commemoration.

We would like to commend the efforts of the Anacortes Seafarers’ Memorial Foundation, which is committed to maintaining the memorial and remembering those Anacortes commercial fishermen who lost their lives at sea. Discover more about the Foundation  at their Facebook Page.

Blessing of Gardens

Rogation Wednesday: Blessing of the Gardens

Wednesday before Ascension Day

Starting at 1:30 PM

On May 28th, 2014  we celebrated our First Annual Rogation Wednesday Blessing of Gardens…and we plan to hold this event annually.

Rogation Day—the Wednesday before Ascension Day—is an ancient custom observed since the 5th century.  In England the day was celebrated as congregations walked the boundaries of the parish, with gardens and fields being blessed along the way. It is a way to honor God for his creation and to pray for the land and sea, the gifts of labor and for the needs of all.

We begin at Christ Church by blessing seeds and transplants and soil from our yards and gardens. We asked blessings on our labor as we use the goodness of creation for our betterment and Gods’ glory.

From Christ Church those who are able join the procession to the neighborhood gardens, where will ask God’s blessing on the soil in gardens and yards and the plants grown there to nourish our bodies and spirits.

If you live in Old Town Anacortes and would like us to drop by and bless your garden or flower bed, please contact Marcy at the Christ Church office (office@ChristChurchAnacortes.org or (360) 293-5790).
