Embrace the Moment As It Is
Senior Warden Maggie Collinge
Do you ever find yourself with so many projects that you just can’t get settled down to start one? This happens to me a lot! I have a saying that I often use, “Well, life just gets in the way!” Most days by the time I am ready to go to bed, I remember something that I just did not get done. By then my energy is depleted and it is time for sleep. Wait, did I say sleep? Not! All I can think of is that thing that I did not complete during the day.
I have started a practice that has helped me with this problem. It is called Welcoming Prayer. Here is the prayer that goes along with the practice:
“Welcome, welcome, welcome. I let go of my desire for security, affection and control and embrace the moment as it is.”
This prayer helps me to settle, to put away the day so that I can sleep. The idea is to just let go and accept what is going on in your life. My mother was wise; I can remember her saying, “just let go of it, there is nothing you can do about it at ten o’clock at night”.
God is looking out for us; God wants us to be replenished at the end of the day so we can wake up renewed and ready to jump into life at the start of a new day.
