Reflection

Guy Davidson

I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink,
I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you gave me clothing,
I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me.

matthew 25:35-36

We are a people of plenty, of abundance; our cups runneth over and our tables are filled to overflowing. As I sit down this week with my family, I will give thanks for all I have, and I will discuss my response to the needs of others. It’s not enough to believe, it’s not enough to be a good person, it’s not enough to pray…we must act.

Prayer is the life-blood of a true disciple of Christ. Without a healthy relationship with our Savior, we can’t hope to know His perfect will or the depths of His love. Take time in daily prayer with God, giving thanks for all you have and ask Him how you can best serve others. As you discern how God is calling you, ask Him to transform your heart into that of a servant.

Adult Faith Formation

The Jesus Fatwah: Love Your (Muslim) Neighbor as Yourself
Sundays, November 8 – December 20
11:45 am—12:45 pm, via Zoom

In Arabic, the word “fatwah” simply means “opinion” and, in a religious context,
a fatwah is a spiritually instructive opinion, usually given as the answer to a question about religious law. Jesus was a master of the art of fatwah. His opinions, revered by Christians and Muslims alike, remain among the most beautiful and powerful fatwahs ever issued. Jesus pronounced what is perhaps the most famous of his fatwahs when a lawyer asked Jesus to name the greatest of all the commandments. He said, “Love the Lord your God with all of your heart, mind, soul and strength and love your neighbor as you love yourself.”  (David Felten & Jeff Procter-Murphy)

November 22
Session 1

Islam 101: In Which We Tell You Some of What You Need to Know About Islam”
In this session we look at the basic tenets of Islam. We live in an era in which much of what passes as information about Islam is weed-like disinformation rooted in stereotype and watered by fear. We decided to weed out the tares of ignorance by doing what, for Christians, apparently is radical: we spoke to some actual Muslims and to Christian scholars whose intellectual garden-sheds are filled with the tools of fact-based knowledge. The product of these conversations is a harvest of reliable information about what your Muslim neighbors and coworkers believe and about how they live out their faith.

Community Support Outreach 2020

Anacortes Family Center

Due to the current pandemic, our Red Door Thrift Shop has not been able to generate their usual funds for Community Support Outreach. With your help, Christ Church could still make a contribution this year to some of the organizations that we have traditionally supported with our funding.

Please consider a one-time donation to Christ Church’s Community Support Outreach Fund. Many of the organizations we support, such as the Anacortes Family Center, are working extra hard to help offset the effects of the pandemic, and need our support now more than ever.  Grants to these local organizations are made in December so please make your contribution by November 30. Checks may be made out to Christ Church with memo to “2020 Community Outreach”.

2021 Leadership Positions

At the annual meeting each January, Bishop’s Committee members and delegates and alternative delegates to the Diocesan Convention are elected. We would like to hear from you if you are interested in any of these positions and your name will be forwarded to the nominating committee of the Bishop’s Committee. We encourage you to give this invitation consideration. If you have any questions, please contact me. Also let me know if there are other ministries that may interest you.
