Luke 15:1-10
Parable of the Lost Sheep

“Now all the tax collectors and sinners were coming to listen to him.  And the Pharisees and the scribes were grumbling and saying, "This fellow welcomes sinners and eats with them. " So he told them this parable.  "Which one of you, having one hundred sheep and losing one of them, does not leave the ninety nine in the wilderness and go after the one that is lost until he finds it?  When he has found it, he lay's it on his shoulders and rejoices.  And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and neighbors, saying to them, 'Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep that was lost.'  Just so, I tell you, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety nine righteous persons who need no repentance."

We have our 21st century version of tax collectors and sinners with bank robbers, grifters, dead beat parents who neglect to pay child support, internet scammers, shoplifters, etcetera, etcetera; so how can they find a way to repent and turn their lives around?

The answer isn't easy and definitely not within our control; it is God's mission, with some help from us, using his spiritual guidance.  We can pray that these "tax collectors" will open themselves up to God's counsel, we can act as models of good character and give our point of view, when asked.  We can also pray that God will use us as instruments for transformation.

We also need to do some self-checking.  We may not indeed be bank robbers or shoplifters, but there still is plenty of room for our reformation and we need to be willing to humbly submit this to God for his insight and guidance.

The Red Door Thrift Shop
Weekly News

Dawn Jex, Red Door Manager

Dawn Jex

Hello everyone!
I just wanted to take a moment to tell you about someone special to our shop. Candace Kingman is a local business owner who does appraisals. She has been doing jewelry and collectable pricing for us for FREE for many years. So I wanted to give her a shout out this morning and give you her contact information. If you need someone to tell you the value of items in your home, she is the one to contact. Her email is islandgemology@comcast.net and her phone number is 360-202-0324. And don't let her email fool you - she not only appraises jewelry - she also appraises art and antiques and collectables. Thank you Candace for all you do for The Red Door!

As we are almost to April it is now time to switch over our seasonal clothing storage. Effective today we will start to put spring and summer clothing and shoes out in the shop and we will begin storing heavy winter coats, snow gear and heavy boots. Debbie will begin bringing over bags and boxes from the garage for pricing. Please be sure to evaluate anything that comes from storage. Make sure everything we put out on the floor is in the best condition possible. You may catch a stain or a tear that someone else missed. And those of you in donations, please remember to only keep winter items that are in awesome shape or name brand. These items will be in storage till next year so make sure they are worth keeping. Thank you!

Speaking of donations, we have a few shifts available for coverage:
-Tuesday 4/1 and 4/8 12:30-3pm in donations.
-Clothing Pricer from 10-Noon on Monday 4/7
-Clothing Pricer 12:30-3pm on 4/8 and 4/22.

I would also like to find a greeting card person. Someone to come in once a week, match cards with envelopes and put them out in the card display. This is a job that can be partially remote - match up cards and envelopes at home - then bring them in and place them in our display. Let me know if this sounds like YOU!

I have attached a copy of the most recent ADA guidelines regarding service animals for you to read at your leisure. We have not changed our policy about pets but I found this memo enlightening and thought maybe you would too. A few things - a Service Animal is always a dog - not a snake or a cat or an iguana. LOL. They do not have to be wearing a vest or identifying insignia. We can only ask two questions. Take a look and let me know if you have any questions.

I have had quite a few of you ask me if our occurrences of theft have lowered. We are certainly NOT seeing blatant theft as we did a few weeks ago but that does not mean it has stopped. We HAVE had buildings and grounds put up new cameras and I am planning to install some mirrors in advantageous locations. We are still keeping the dressing room locked as well. Please remember to see how many items the person takes it and that number should match when they exit. Keep the door locked at all times.

In an attempt to work less over the weekends, I have removed the work email from my phone. I am attempting to find a better work/life balance and put some boundaries around my off time. This is something which is a challenge for me. So, if you email me Saturday, Sunday or Monday I will be happy to answer your messages on Tuesday morning.

And last but not least, how can we serve our community this week? The Red Door's mission is not only to sell items to the community, it is also to be a place of welcome and rest for them. We are to be a place where everyone feels welcome to shop or visit or chat with their friends. How can we engage our customers in meaningful conversations or maybe just be a good listener? I know that I've seen many folks come in who are eager to talk. We may be the only person they see all week, the only friendly smile or gentle encourager. I know when we are busy, it can be overwhelming with all the bodies in the shop so my challenge to you is just to find one person this week. One stranger - give them a smile, ask them if you can help them, compliment their coat, or hat or hair? Just be friendly. Every little moment of kindness counts in this world.

Hope you all are well and enjoying this blue sky day!

Hugs,
Dawn
