Reflection

Grace Minton

Grace Minton

I was recently invited to take part in a course entitled Spiritual Formation and Support for lay leaders. In preparation, we’re reading Fully Awake and Truly Alive, Spiritual Practices to Nurture Your Soul by Rev. J.E.Vennard. She writes about the importance of community and that “all spiritual practices can be divided into three categories: contemplative practices, communal practices, and missional practices.” This is particularly relevant to me today. It was a very last-minute decision to show Rev. Courtney’s zoom discussion today on the big screen in the Parish Hall, yet I was joined by four other members of our congregation. Although I wasn’t able to connect the device to the big screen, we took part by watching on my laptop and I felt such a sense of community doing this together.

It was so rewarding being able to discuss Rev. Courtney’s excellent Rule of Life for Lent in person and in conjunction with those on zoom. I hope to see more communal participation in these valuable lessons which are being presented to us. What a blessing our church community is!
